Jason Varitek comes to camp ready to go each spring because he knows once it begins and pitchers start throwing off a mound, he needs to be concerned about the 30 pitchers who turned out Saturday to begin workouts.

"I'm ready," declared Varitek, who turns 35 on April 11. "Physically, I'm ready."
