The Red Sox avoided salary arbitration with Wily Mo Pena on Friday, agreeing to terms with the outfielder on a one-year contract.

Pena's arbitration hearing was scheduled to take place Friday. He had asked for $2.2 million, while the Red Sox offered $1.72 million.
