Wily Mo Pena could become Theo Epstein's first arbitration case. There has been no progress in the negotiations. Pena, whom the Sox acquired from the Cincinnati Reds in a trade for Bronson Arroyo on March 20 of last year, made $1.25 million during his first season with the club. The 25-year-old outfielder, who batted .301 with 11 homers and 42 RBI in 84 games, is seeking a raise to $2.2 million. The team has offered $1.725 million, and the two sides apparently aren?t close to spanning the $475,000 gap.
