The Red Sox announced on a conference call early Tuesday morning that they met with Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka and agent Scott Boras on Monday, but have yet to arrive at a deal.

The Red Sox have another meeting scheduled for Wednesday, one day before their deadline to come to an agreement.

Boston has until midnight Thursday to negotiate a deal with Matsuzaka, who is represented by Boras. If no deal is reached, the 26-year-old righthander will return to Japan and the Red Sox will get their posting fee returned.
