According to sources, Julio Lugo?s deal is worth in the neighborhood of $35-36 million, an average of $8.5 million to $9 million per season.

Largely because of his desire to play shortstop, Lugo turned down offers from the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets to come to the Red Sox.
