The Red Sox are likely to offer salary arbitration to free agent outfielder Trot Nixon by Friday's deadline, according to a source with ties to the team.

With Boston close to signing J.D. Drew, the arbitration offer makes it seem even more likely that Manny Ramirez will be traded.

Nixon was paid $6.5 million last season and could expect to win a raise in arbitration.
