Vicente Padilla is a free agent negotitating his own contract, as he no long has an agent. Padilla has asked for a deal that would start at more than $10 million a year, a baseball official said. That is more than double the $4.4 million he earned last season. The Rangers would not comment publicly, but team officials have indicated that is considerably more than they are willing to pay. If Padilla can't find a buyer and his price comes down, the Rangers are expected to make a serious bid.
