Brian Cashman opted to stay silent on the comments expressed by the disgruntled Gary Sheffield, team president Randy Levine and general partner Steve Swindal shared their thoughts on Thursday. "Brian is really quarterbacking this whole issue; Mr. Steinbrenner's health is fine, so it has nothing to do with that," Swindal said. "Brian is in charge of baseball operations, so he's the guy that players and their agents should be dealing with." Levine stressed that Sheffield's comments wouldn't have any impact on the Yankees' plans for him this winter. "It's a lot of noise; that's the bottom line," Levine said. "Gary Sheffield signed the contract, he negotiated it himself -- and took great pride negotiating it himself -- and the contract is what it is. It's noise. I really don't pay much attention to it."
