Gary Denbo is taking over as the head of the farm system for the New York Yankees.

Denbo, 53, is replacing the retiring Mark Newman, who has overseen the club's minor leagues for the last 15 years as senior vice president of baseball operations, according to a source.

Denbo was also the hitting coach for the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan from 2003-05. In New York's 2014 media guide, he is listed as a pro scout.
