The Kansas City Royals passed on the chance to sign Sergio Romo to a small $1,000 bonus before the San Francisco Giants took a chance on the reliever.

He was drafted in the 28th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.

Romo was an unheralded pitcher at the time, but now the Royals will have to face the right-hander in the World Series.

The 31-year-old had a 3.72 ERA, 0.948 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 58 innings this season.
