Chase Headley did not travel with the New York Yankees for Friday's double-header in Baltimore after being hit in the jaw with a 96 mph fastball on Thursday night.

He was sent to the hospital for a series of tests, including a facial X-ray, Joe Girardi said.

Facing Jake McGee of the Tampa Bay Rays, Headley took the fastball right off his chin. He remained on the ground for minutes. New York's team trainers came out and the team doctor, Chris Ahmad, also made his way onto the field. Headley eventually walked off.

Although Headley was bleeding, Girardi said he did not think he would need stitches. All of Headley's teeth also are intact. Girardi said they will watch for any concussion symptoms.
