The Boston Red Sox want to re-sign Koji Uehara, who turns 40 before Opening Day next season.

Uehara, who has struggled recently, is eligible for free agency after this year.

Ben Cherington called Uehara's struggles an "outlier."

He has a 2.54 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 75 strikeouts in 61.1 innings this season, but struggled in August when he posted a 5.56 ERA and had just nine strikeouts in 11.1 frames.
