The Pirates today claimed infielder Tommy Field off waivers from the Angels. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, GM Neal Huntington. Field has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 27-year-old Field hit .285 (86-for-302) with 18 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 33 RBI and 55 runs scored in 80 games with Triple-A Salt Lake this season before being designated for assignment on Thursday.

Last year Field saw action in 26 games with the Angels in five different stints with the big league club. He also hit .303 with Salt Lake, which established a career-high at the minor league level.
