The Los Angeles Dodgers recently called the Philadelphia Phillies about Cole Hamels, but were turned off by the asking price.

Philadelphia told Los Angeles that they wanted three of the team's top prospects -- outfielder Joc Pederson, shortstop Corey Seager and left-handed pitcher Julio Urias.

No team has been willing to meet the asking price for Hamels, but the Phillies may be willing to lower it if they can package the left-hander with someone like Ryan Howard or Jonathan Papelbon.

Clearing that much money off the books would allow Philadelphia to be players in free agency this winter.
