The Pirates today claimed infielder Dean Anna off waivers from the Yankees. The announcement was made by Pirates Senior Vice President, GM Neal Huntington. Anna will be optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 27-year-old Anna was a member of New York’s Opening Day roster and spent 12 games with the Yankees, where he hit .136 (3-for-22) with a double, home run and three RBI before being optioned to Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre on April 24.

In 2013 Anna spent the entire season with Tucson (Padres’ AAA), where he hit .331 (165-for-498) with 38 doubles, five triples, nine home runs, 73 RBI and 90 runs scored in 132 games. He led all Pacific Coast League hitters in average, ranked second in doubles and tied for fourth in runs scored and total bases (240).
