The Orioles today announced that they have claimed SS Luis Hernandez on waivers from the Atlanta Braves. Hernandez, 22, has batted .246 in 6 minor league seasons since signing with the Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 2000.

Hernandez, a native of Quibor, Venezuela, batted .268 in 104 games with AA Mississippi and .198 in 19 games for AAA Richmond in 2006. This was his first full season above Class A ball after going to spring training with the Braves each of the last two years.

The Orioles also announced that they have sent three players - RHP Julio Manon, RHP Winston Abreu and IF Angel Chavez - outright to AAA Ottawa.
