The Cleveland Indians have announced an agreement with Jason Kipnis on a six-year contract extension through the 2019 season with an option for another year.

Kipnis, who turned 27 on Thursday, was a first-time All-Star last July.

In 340 Major League games, the infielder is hitting .270/.348/.423 with 38 home runs and 179 RBIs.

The extension is believed to be worth $52 million. He will receive a $1 million signing bonus and his 2014 salary will increase to $2 million.
