The A's today selected infielder D'Angelo Jimenez from Triple-A Sacramento and claimed right-handed pitcher Jerome Williams on waivers from the Cubs. Williams will not report to Oakland.

To clear spots on the 40-man roster, the A's have designated right-handed pitcher Matt Roney and infielder Mike Rouse for assignment.

Williams was on the Cubs Opening Day roster this year and was 0-2 with a 7.30 ERA in five games, two starts, when he was optioned to Iowa on April 23. He spent the remainder of the season at the Triple-A level and was 5-7 with a 4.76 ERA in 29 games, 16 starts. The 24-year old Williams made his Major League debut with San Francisco in 2003 and is 23-24 with a 4.03 ERA in 70 career appearances, 65 starts, with the Giants (2003-05) and the Cubs (2005-06).
