The Mets were awaiting word late Saturday regarding the condition of Carlos Beltran, hours after their center fielder had injured his left knee crashing into the chain-link fence in left-center field at Minute Maid Park. Beltran, the team's primary candidate for the Most Valuable Player award, had been taken to a local hospital for additional examination -- X-rays and perhaps an MRI. He limped conspicuously as he left the clubhouse after saying he couldn't bear weight on his left leg.
