Alderson Expects Offseason To Pick Up Pace

Jan 08, 2013 7:29 AM EST

The Mets are the only club that has yet to sign a major league free agent this offseason.

That will eventually change, Sandy Alderson said, though the team is not close to any deals for pitchers.

"The free-agent market for outfielders has shrunk," he said. "We've watched that happen. We think that the free-agent market for outfielders was almost as overpriced as the market for starting pitching. But be that as it may, we're still looking.

"We may go into the season with what we have; we may add someone. But the inventory of free-agent outfielders is low."
