The San Francisco Giants placed LaTroy Hawkins on the 15-day disabled list with right ulnar neuritis, team officials said Friday. Hawkins, who is 0-1 with the Giants, was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on May 28. During his time with the Giants, Hawkins hadn't been used much. Giants manager Felipe Alou said that Hawkins was going to be worked into the bullpen. "The last time that we used him, he was throwing in the 97 mph range," Alou said. "We didn't need him. ... Then on Tuesday, he felt something. All of sudden, he hadn't pitched in eight days." To replace Hawkins on the roster, the Giants have purchased the contract of right-hander Brandon Puffer from Triple-A Fresno.
