John Smoltz knows the thought is unconventional, but he thinks the Braves should save Tim Hudson and Kris Medlen for the National League Division Series.

The problem is that as a likely Wild Card entrant, Atlanta would have to win a one-game playoff in order to advance to the NLDS.

Smoltz theorizes that the risk is worth taking because the Braves stand a better chance of winning a World Series with Medlen and Hudson lined up to pitch in the first round.

"I know it's unconventional," he said. "I know it's outside the box, and I know I'd get fired if I was the manager. But this is what I would do if I was the Atlanta Braves."
