Due to a concussion suffered over two months ago, San Francisco catcher Mike Matheny will miss the rest of the season. Matheny came out of a May 31 contest vs. Florida after taking a foul ball off his chin. The 35-year-old had taken several fouls off his mask in previous contests and the continuous battering resulted in a concussion. After a number of tests with specialists, Matheny was still having problems performing everyday common tasks. The decision was made to shut down the four-time Gold Glove catcher for the season to aid in his recovery.
