Nationals Shut Down Strasburg After Poor Outing

Sep 08, 2012 11:15 AM EST

The Nationals have decided to shut down Stephen Strasburg, effective immediately, after a short outing against the Marlins on Friday night.

Davey Johnson made the announcement on Saturday morning. There had been rumors that Strasburg might be allowed to make an extra start because he pitched just three innings against Miami.

Strasburg allowed five runs on six hits while throwing 67 pitches. He allowed a pair of home runs.

His final start was supposed to come on Sept. 12 against the Mets.
