Hendry Helped Yankees Sign Pick, Acquire McGehee

Jim Hendry has made an impact since joining the Yankees as a special-assignment scout in February.

Hendry, the former Cubs general manager, helped Brian Cashman decide on trading for Casey McGehee right before last Tuesday's non-waiver trade deadline.

"Brian and I had a real good relationship through my 10 years with the Cubs. We made a few deals together, and we always had a real blunt, honest relationship," Hendry said of Cashman.

Hendry has a background in scouting and minor-league player development.

Hendry helped the Yankees agree to a deal with first-round pick Ty Hensley, who was weighing a contract offer and college at the same time.

"He got pretty intimately involved with a lot of the dialogue, with the families, and the negotiations," Cashman said. "He was extremely helpful in a number of the signings. The No. 1 pick -- I don't think those things get done without him."
