Phillies May Have Held Onto Lee In Hopes Of Future Trade

Aug 05, 2012 5:29 PM EST

The Phillies decided to hold onto Cliff Lee rather than allow the Dodgers to simply take him and the $95 million he is owed over the remainder of his contract.

Los Angeles claimed Lee on waivers this week and Philadelphia had until Sunday afternoon to make a decision on his future.

Lee took the mound for the Phillies against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports writes that it is possible the Phillies could shop Lee this winter with the understanding that they'll pay some of his contract, but also take back good players in return.
