Bochy: Lincecum-Posey Battery Is Not Dead

Jul 21, 2012 11:39 AM EST

Bruce Bochy has rejected the notion that he is reluctant to have Buster Posey catch right-hander Tim Lincecum.

The issue arose when Bochy had just-promoted Eli Whiteside catch Lincecum on Friday night.

Hector Sanchez had caught Lincecum's five previous starts, fueling speculation that Lincecum no longer felt comfortable working with Posey.

"Timmy doesn't care who he throws to, and it's my call when I'm going to give Buster a break," the manager said.

Bochy also said that Posey admitted he was "feeling it" after catching eight innings in Thursday's day game in Atlanta after catching most of Wednesday night's 11-inning game, which started late because of rain.

Furthermore, Bochy said, catching Lincecum can be hard on the body with all the balls in the dirt one has to block.

"I didn't want him to go through another tough game after catching in the hot weather, and that's the truth," Bochy said. "It was totally my decision."
