Washington: Game 6 Was Supposed To Kill Rangers

May 02, 2012 2:06 PM EST

The Rangers were twice one strike away from beating the Cardinals and winning World Series last October.

Instead, St. Louis stormed back and went on to take the championship.

"I certainly didn't read things before the season that the Texas Rangers were given a chance to do anything," manager Ron Washington said. "I know that we weren't advertised to be able to do anything. You know, Game 6 was supposed to kill us."

Entering Wednesday's action, Texas is 17-7 and they own the best record in the American League.

Washington says that the team believes in themselves, which has allowed them to push the memory of Game 6 out of their minds.

"Belief in what we have here," he said. "Belief in ourselves. The biggest thing is belief. Valuing yourself. Being treated with love and respect is valuing yourself. We value ourselves."
