One major league source with direct knowledge of talks said the White Sox' offer of righthander Brandon McCarthy and center fielder Brian Anderson for Jason Schmidt is a legitimate trade proposal. The White Sox are actually prepared to give up one of their proven starters -- Freddy Garcia, Javier Vazquez, or Jon Garland -- if they could upgrade. A team like the Red Sox would also have interest in Schmidt.
