The Giants on Thursday activated right fielder Moises Alou from the 15-day disabled list prior to their game against the Dodgers.

Alou, who turned 40 on Monday, had been sidelined since June 17 with a back strain.

To create a roster spot for Alou, the Giants optioned lefthander Jack Taschner to Class AAA Fresno of the Pacific Coast League.
