Philip Humber enters the 2012 season looking to prove himself worthy of the final starting spot on the staff of the White Sox.

Humber took a liner just above the right eye on Aug. 18, but was back on the mound by Sept. 5.

New Chicago manager Robin Ventura gave Humber the No. 5 spot in the team's rotation, but the right-hander isn't taking anything for granted.

"I look at it like every day I want to prove to myself, regardless of what someone says, whether I have this spot or that spot," Humber said.

"I want to prove myself that I belong in the big leagues and I belong on this team. I'm going to keep taking that attitude from here on out. But I enjoy the opportunity and then the chance to go out there and show people what I can do."
