Orioles reliever Mike Gonzalez and manager Buck Showalter were both ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Red Sox on Sunday after Gonzalez threw a pitch behind Boston's David Ortiz. Ortiz got into an altercation with Baltimore reliever Kevin Gregg on Friday night, leading to both benches clearing. "I'd have thrown (Gonzalez) out of the game, too," Showalter said after the game. Asked if he was throwing at Ortiz, Gonzalez said: "The series was frustrating the whole way. It was what it was." Red Sox manager Terry Francona did not seem pleased with the fact that Gonzalez delivered a pitch behind the back of Ortiz. "It looked a little, ah, it makes you think," Francona said. "The ball was three feet behind him. That's where somebody gets hurts. That's the point when somebody can really get hurt when you do something like that." Foster also ejected Francona and Red Sox starter Kyle Weiland in the fifth inning. Weiland, who was making his major league debut, said something after hitting Vladimir Guerrero and Francona was tossed for coming to his rookie pitcher's defense.
