Joe Mauer is still catching for the Twins, but he has begun to take groundballs at first base. Mauer got some work in at the position before Monday's game against the Dodgers while manager Ron Gardenhire stood next to him and offered the advice. The last time Mauer, the first overall pick in the 2001 draft, played first base in a game was 2002 in Class A. "It doesn't bother me. I've always told Gardy, 'If you need me over there, I can definitely do it," Mauer said. "It's nice to get over there and take some groundballs before it gets to that."
