Indians rookie pitcher Alex White will be sidelined for two months because of a sprained ligament in his right middle finger.
"Heartbreaking," he said.
One of the top pitching prospects in Cleveland's organization, he was a first-round pick of the team back in 2009.
White, 22, injured his finger while throwing a slider in the third inning of Friday night's game against Cincinnati.
He isn't allowed to pick up a baseball for three to four weeks.
Indians head trainer Lonnie Soloff said surgery is not currently an option and that he's "cautiously optimistic" White will pitch again this season.
