Kyle Davies will need surgery for an injured groin, the Atlanta Braves learned Wednesday after the promising 22-year-old pitcher was examined by a specialist.

The Braves feared the worst after Davies felt a pop in his groin Monday during his start against the Marlins.

He underwent an MRI in Atlanta, then was sent to Philadelphia to be examined by Dr. Bill Meyers, who specializes in groin injuries.
