Gary Sheffield became eligible to leave the DL last Sunday. However, it seems likely it will be a minimum of two weeks before the Yankees get him back on the field.

Sheffield has not swung a bat in more than a week and probably won't do so again until he sees hand specialist Dr. Charles Melone this week for a follow-up MRI. Torre guessed Sheffield could return to the lineup in another 10 days, but the Yankees' manager quickly added, "That's a guess, a conservative guess."
