The durable Matsui has played in 518 consecutive major league games since coming over from Japan. The streak is an all-time record for a player at the start of his big league career and is the longest streak by any Yankee since Lou Gehrig's historical 2,130 game-streak. Matsui's record setting streak will end with tonight's game, even though Matsui started and took the field. Rule 10.24C states that you must complete a half inning in the game or take a turn at bat to be credited with a game played. Matsui was able to do neither. |
