Yankees' Soriano Dodged Media After Collapse

Apr 06, 2011 2:53 PM EST

CC Sabathia led the Yankees to a 4-0 lead over the Twins on Tuesday night, but reliever Rafael Soriano quickly coughed it up in the eighth inning.

New York went on to lose 5-4 in 10 innings.

Soriano, who had notched two scoreless outings, allowed four runs in less than an inning.

When the clubhouse opened afterward to the media, Soriano had already departed, leaving his manager and catcher to address the outing.

Soriano allowed just one hit, but walked three batters while getting two outs.

"I'm going to go to my eighth-inning guy," manager Joe Girardi said.

'If you can get in a situation where you don’t have to use your closer, that's how you get to not using your closer. I have a 41-year-old closer down there, so if there's nights I can give him off, I'm going to try to get him a night off. By going to Soriano, that's what you do."
