The White Sox are trying to beat division rival Minnesota at their own game. Heading into the season, Chicago is stressing defense and fundamentals. "We have to do the little things right," White Sox reliever Matt Thornton said. "It's all about the fundamental things of baseball. "Really, it's about executing bunts, fielding a ball, making quality pitches, getting ahead of hitters as a pitcher, quality at-bats from a hitter, working pitchers deep in the count, working the starting pitcher and getting to the bullpen and going after teams that way. It's going to make us win games." White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf believes he has improved the team's defense this winter. "They never had a great bunch of players on paper. They always played the game right," Reinsdorf said of the Twins. "That's why Ozzie always called them the piranhas because they did things right. It was always hard for me to hate the Twins because they had great people. "Their ownership, they always had players who played the game the way it's supposed to be played. I think this [White Sox] team is going to be that type of team."
