The City Council played ball with the Mets and Yankees yesterday by approving stadium-financing deals worth nearly $2 billion combined.

The votes marked huge steps in bringing new ballparks to both teams by Opening Day 2009.

The Mets are planning to build a back-to-the-future ballpark, evoking the old Ebbets Field, on a Shea Stadium parking lot.

The Yankees' new field of dreams would rise on city parkland near the current House that Ruth Built.
