Giants Have Contacted Jeter's Agent

The popular belief is still that Derek Jeter will eventually re-sign with the Yankees, but that hasn't stopped at least one team from inquiring with the shortstop's agent.

Negotiations have turned testy, with Jeter wanting more years and money added to New York's latest offer (three-year, $45 million).

"Every team will have to make a read as to whether it's real, whether there's a chance to get him," a baseball executive said.

But he added, "Nothing's going to come of it. He's going to sign back with them, I'm sure."

The Giants have been in contact with Jeter's agent, Casey Close, who also represents their catcher, Buster Posey.

San Francisco general manager Brian Sabean was New York's president of player development when they drafted Jeter in 1992.
