The New York Yankees signed infielder Carlos Pena and right-hander Jesus Colome to minor league deals on Saturday.

Both players will report to the team's spring training headquarters in Tampa, Fla., before being assigned to Triple-A Columbus.

"It's another safety net for us," manager Joe Torre said before the game Saturday night against the Minnesota Twins.
