Torii Hunter's future will play itself out this season. Hunter, 30, in the final season of a four-year, $32 million contract, has made it clear that if the Twins do not win this season or show a commitment to winning next year, he wants to play elsewhere. "I think about it all the time," said Hunter, referring to the prospects of playing for the New York Yankees or other big-market teams. "I'm human. I know how to take it out of my mind when I'm playing the game, but when I'm sitting here (in the clubhouse) and look around at some of these younger guys ? I look at Joe Mauer. I look at Justin Morneau. They have all the time in the world. "But for me, five, six more years, it might be the end for me. So I need to go out and try to win the World Series. I can't go backwards." The Twins have a $12 million option on Hunter's contract for 2007, and whether the tight-fisted franchise exercises the option depends mostly on how the team fares in 2006.
