Jeff Samardzija will replace Carlos Silva in the Cubs rotation on Monday against the Cardinals.

Silva complained to Chicago's coaching staff about pain in his right elbow on Sunday.

Samardzija, who was 11-3 in a combined starting and relieving role at Triple-A Iowa, was originally signed in 2006 and then given a $10 million contract in 2007.
