The Athletics are looking to add a few power hitters with an eye on contending for a playoff spot in 2011. "The game is changing. There aren't guys who can hit 50 homers, but you still have to have two guys in the lineup who are threats to hit the ball out of the ballpark," second baseman Mark Ellis said. "That would make everyone else better, too. But they're not easy to find." Oakland's pitching is among the best in baseball, but they can't stay above .500 because of their offense. "It's an obvious area to address, and between now and the offseason, we'll have a number of conversations about how best to fill that need," A's general manager Billy Beane said. |
