Padres pitcher Chris Young didn't allow a hit while pitching 3  1/3 scoreless innings on a rehab assignment Sunday for the Triple-A Portland Beavers.

Facing the Las Vegas 51s, Young gave up two walks and struck out three.

"It was a good outing," Young said. "I was encouraged as much by the results as how I felt. And I feel good.

"I think I'm close to giving you five solid innings. I was very, very happy with the stuff I had today. All in all, this was very good.

"I know you didn't see it, but there wasn't a ball hit hard and they had some major league hitters in the lineup.

"The only thing I wish is that I had been a little more efficient with my pitch count. There were a lot of balls fouled off. But I know I'm capable of getting hitters out now."
