Longtime Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek has no plans to retire.

The 38-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season.

"I'm going to play," he said. "I'm excited. I'm doing some things as good or better than I ever have."

Varitek missed all of July and August with a broken right foot suffered when Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford fouled a pitch off it.
