Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia sounded optimistic after undergoing season-ending foot surgery on Friday, according to manager Terry Francona. "That was good to hear," Francona said. "Would certainly like to hear that rather than them come out and say, 'It's not what we thought it would be' or something like that." Pedroia had a screw inserted into his left foot to promote healing during the procedure. "He actually sent me a picture on his phone before he went in for surgery. He took a picture of himself and he called himself a moron, which I agree with," Francona said jokingly. "[His wife] Kelli called me when he got out of a surgery, which I appreciated and then he called me a little bit later. He sounded good."
