Ryne Sandberg remains one of the favorites to replace Lou Piniella has manager of the Cubs, but there are growing indications that he may be losing ground. ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports that he isn't losing ground to another candidate, but rather Chicago has their eyes on a manager with a more extensive track record. One name that isn't likely to go away quietly is Joe Girardi, but a friend of the Yankee manager refuted any serious interest. "Why would he do that?" the friend asked. "He loves managing the Yankees. He's got a chance to win every year. He's got a great relationship with everybody in the organization. He doesn't even really live in Chicago anymore. I guess if they were to come in and offer him a ridiculous amount of money, he might do it. But that, to me, is about the only way."
