Indians catcher Carlos Santana will miss four to six months after undergoing season-ending surgery on his left knee Friday.

Santana suffered a strained lateral collateral ligament during a collision at home plate against the Red Sox on Monday.

"Carlos is expected to make a full recovery by the beginning of the 2011 [regular] season," Cleveland athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said.
